Infected discitis is a potentially dangerous and debilitating condition. It normally develops as a result of a blood borne infection. Rarely, it will develop as a complication of spinal surgery.

Treatment is usually with many weeks of antibiotics. In some instances surgery is required to drain the infection and stabilise the spine.
